The Plainedge Red Devils
Varsity Football team advances to the county Playoffs to defend last year’s title with
a close call 14-13 victory against Wantagh. Plainedge allowed
Wantagh to stay close but a failed
2 point conversion with about 47 seconds left earned Plainedge the
Victory.
Minutes earlier
Plainedge had a chance to pull way with a fourth and two opportunity
inside the 5 yard line. Plainedge chose to run the ball
rather then go for the field goal and they were stopped cold on the
two yard line. Wantagh with about 1:53 left took
the ball down 98 yards for touchdown to force the decision to go for
the conversion to win rather then the extra point to
tie.
Plainedge
stopped them cold and marched into the playoffs victorious amongst
an excited crowd of spectators and classmate supporters.

Our country is
in the middle of a crisis in science and technology, and FIRST is
trying to change how our culture views these fields, said renowned
inventor of the Segway Human Transporter and FIRST founder, Dean
Kamen. They’re helping young people see scientists and engineers in
the same light as their traditional heroes in sports and
entertainment.
Over 1,130
teams made up of 28,500 high school students from the
United States,
Canada,
Brazil,
Ecuador,
Israel,
Mexico and the
United
Kingdom participated in 33 regional

to the Championship by excelling in competitive play, sportsmanship
and the development of partnerships between schools, businesses and
communities.
Accomplished
inventor Dean Kamen founded FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition
of Science and Technology) in 1989 to inspire an appreciation of
science and technology in young people, their schools and their
communities. Based in Manchester, N.H., FIRST designs accessible,
innovative programs to build self-confidence, knowledge and life

The Red Devils won the Nassau County
title and won our hearts while dropping the Long Island Title game
to the Huntington Blue Devils 27-14 at Stony Brook University.
Thousands of Plainedge fans cheered our boys throughout the
contest. The Red Devils performed courageously as the game was
tied into the final minutes of the fourth quarter. A
late scoring drive by Huntington, a fumble recovery on the
ensuing kick off, followed by a fourth Huntington touchdown
ended Plainedge's dream season. The 2005 Plainedge Red Devils
will be remembered as Nassau County Division III champions
and as a team that brought a community back together.
Thank you 2005 Plainedge Red Devil football team on a job well
done!
